From Wolferine to “Marvel’s Wolverine” and the X-????

FnJimmy once wrote “Wolferine” and it has never been forgotten. That is the lore.

When you first drop into a level and look around at the entire gameplay environment—the play area, the layout, and how the enemies are positioned—it feels like something you've seen in games your whole life. That's the core issue: any character from any game could easily step into Wolverine's shoes here and it would feel exactly the same.

For a second, I didn’t even realize it was Jean Grey. I genuinely thought it was Scarlet Witch at first. Yeah… maybe not my brightest moment.

Then we’re suddenly on the back of a truck, racing down a snowy highway. As Wolverine, you’re fighting off waves of guys shooting at you and trying to knock you off. A bigger brute shows up, and you have to take him down too. It’s a series of tight, linear hallway-style set pieces with Wolverine’s claws instead of Nathan Drake’s guns, Doctor Doom’s magic, He-Man’s sword, or Master Chief’s armor.

I had a very different idea of what this game could be. I was hoping for something that starts like an escape from Weapon X: a huge, dense forest filled with small enemy camps, survival elements, and a massive dam (think the X2 movie vibe). You’re playing as a hunted Wolverine, surviving against Trask forces and other mutants while piecing together how you ended up there in the first place. A proper origin story feel.

After that, maybe you settle into a more open city hub with the X-Mansion nearby as a base of operations. Wolverine could take on his own solo missions from there. I was definitely expecting a much more open world, not these short, straight-line levels.

Honestly, I don’t know a ton about the new Wolverine game beyond what I saw at Summer Game Fest. And what I saw was probably enough for me. I won’t be jumping in on day one. Hard pass for now.
