A Deep Rock Galactic: Survivor Guide. Slither Drones Sucks!
Slither Drones: Broken or Just Underwhelming?
I went back and forth on this one. At first I thought the Slither Drones needed to be off-screen to do damage. Then I tried keeping them right next to me. Nothing seemed to make a big difference. In the end, the Slither Drones sucks.
Best Survivor for the Job: Contractor
I strongly recommend running Contractor. The +10% Max HP is far more valuable here than the +20 Lifetime on a weapon that doesn’t benefit much from it. Extra bulk lets you take more hits and survive to the end of each round when you’re mostly relying on a single strong weapon.
The Real Secret: Weapon Box
The easiest and most reliable way to clear this mastery is to get a Weapon Box from a Supply Pod. It can take a few runs for one to appear, but it’s 100% worth it. This technique will also make any other mastery much easier if you are struggling with any of them.
- In Stage 1, rush the Supply Pod and don’t open it until you’ve collected as much Nitra (Red Crystals) as possible. You need to reroll until you get a Weapon Box.
- At this point in my save, I’ve already maxed out every other challenge, stages, guns, and survivors, so I had strong bonuses going in.
Once you have the Weapon Box, any decent damage weapon will carry you. Compared to the Slither Drones, everything else performs better.
My Successful Run
- Weapon Box Weapon: ArmsKore Coil Gun
This thing is excellent — it pierces walls, mines terrain, leaves lingering damage, and can spawn extra beams. I got very lucky with this roll.
- Supply Pod 2 Upgrade: Mocap
(+1% damage for every 1% missing HP)
This turns you into a glass-cannon monster when you’re low on health — perfect for those “oh crap” moments.
- Supply Pod 3 Upgrade: Vita-Miner Pills
(+5% Max HP and increases healing on level up)
My personal favorite for tanking. Level up consistently and you’ll heal back to full while becoming extremely hard to kill.
Final Results
This setup is slow but very consistent. In my successful run, the Slither Drones only did about 5 million total damage while my Coil Gun hit 38 million. Even after leveling the Drones to 19, their DPS barely broke 5k.
Honest Opinion:
I genuinely think Slither Drones are better suited for gold mining than combat. I avoid starting runs with the Operator unless a challenge forces me to.
Bonus: Operator Mastery
I used the exact same strategy for Operator Mastery and found it much easier. You get three additional weapons (plus a potential fourth from the Weapon Box), so you’re not nearly as dependent on the weak Slither Drones. Lean hard on your other guns and powerful skills, and you should clear it without too much trouble.
